A guy and a girl are driving through the inner city late at night. They’re in the industrial part of town filled with old factories, decrepit apartment buildings, and abandoned warehouses. The streets are filled with members of the 15th street gang. They pass some tough looking guys and the girl says they’re lost. They stop at an ancient looking corner gas station, but the clerk is locked behind a bullet proof window with heavy bars in front of it. The boy walks up to the window leaving the girl in the car. She locks the doors. A box under the window opens like at a drive-thru bank, and the a voice comes over an intercom asking how much they want. He says they need directions, but the guy’s eyes go wide inside the window as he looks at something behind the boy. The blinds quickly close. A voice behind him, “Turn around bitch, nice and slow.” There’s two thugs, both wearing wife beaters sporting full arm sleeve tattoos. The boy says he just needs directions. That they’re lost. The second guy moves to the car and is next to the girl, he’s kissing the windshield, licking it. She’s turned away, shaking. The boy tells him to stop. “What did you say!?” He pushes the boy and he tumbles to the ground. The guy by the car window starts to unbutton his pants. “Hey, sweetie. It’s showtime!” Just then there’s a blur as the punk pulling his pants down is slammed into the car. He drops to the ground unconscious. The other guy is looking around, but there’s no one there. He turns several times, giving the boy a chance to run for his car. He fumbles with his keys, but his hands are shaking furiously. More shots ring out as the creature from before returns. There’s a crunching sound followed by screams of terror.
The boy grabs his keys and stands up slowly, wincing in pain. The two gang members are on the ground, blood pooling beneath them. His car has two flat tires. He gets in, turns to his girlfriend as he struggles to sit. Not sure what to do. She’s slumped forward. He reaches for her, asks if she’s okay, but there’s no response. He touches her shoulder. Shakes her, and she falls onto him. She’s covered in blood and gore. He tries to get up, but cries out clutching his stomach. He looks down, his shirt is soaked in blood. The boy screams in pain, but mostly anguish. He’s hyperventilating. A figure comes out of the shadows. The hideous looking man from before. His face looks like melted wax. As if it was soaked in acid. He’s limping. He opens the door and looks at the girl. And then him. His eyes fill with moisture. “I’m sorry, I…” Just then around ten other gang members are running towards them. Yelling at that they’re going to fucking kill them slowly. The thing puts out his hand. “Come.” The boy says he can’t move. His stomach. “Come, if you want to live.” The boy takes his hand. The beast grabs him and the next thing he knows he’s up on a fire escape a block away, looking down on the scene. They watch as the gang members take in what happened, looking around, up and down. Totally tripping. On the fire escape, the boy is feeling his wound, but it’s gone. He’s completely healed. He’s like, what happened? The thing takes him and they jump down into the middle of the gang. They pull up their weapons. But the thing takes these dudes down. The boy is like, what the hell. But when one of the punks grabs his arm he resists, discovering that he’s super fucking strong. He lifts the guy in the air and tosses him aside like a piece of trash. After a short while, the gang is dead or running. The demon thing says they have work to do. The boy, thrilled with his new powers, follows along. Thoughts of his life, his dead girlfriend, all in the background while they move through the city taking down thugs, stopping robberies, and shit like that.
When the sun rises, the demon takes him to his lair and tells the boy that his blood has healed his body. That he was chosen. Chosen for what? To live and defend the city. He reveals that he’s sick, and very old. His time is done, he is finished. “You must continue my work.” Several months later there’s a car at the same gas station where his life changed forever. A boy and a girl, looking to buy drugs. But the gangs come out. They never remember who he is or that he even exists. That was part of the gift. He jumps down. Hello boys. Then he kills them all and disappears into the shadows.
