Stephanie Stevens bumps into the apartment manager as she heads out to another audition. He gives her a three day notice. Apparently her rent check bounced. He shrugs his shoulders, “Sorry Steph, just doing my job.” Then walks away. She looks around and crams the notice into her purse, then stomps to her car. What next? This is her seventh audition this week and she can’t catch a break. She’s hoping this one will be different. She’s auditioning for a commercial at Lyle & Klum Media. They have a new product that she absolutely loves and sooo wants to rep. After signing in she gets a number and is told to wait, they’ll text her when it’s her turn. While waiting Stephanie meets a girl who works there. They bond over similar things. She says she’s there to get this part. She definitely needs the money, but absolutely psyched because she adores the product. The lady says her name is Sarah and wishes her luck, then exits the room. Later that day. The auditions are taking forEvEr. Stephanie HAS to have a cigarette. She looks for an exit then thinks better of it and heads for the roof. She exits the elevator on the top floor and clunks through a door to the rooftop and catches Sarah smoking a joint. She laughs, and blows it off saying she can trust her. To prove it she takes a hit herself after Sarah tells her it’s a mellow strain the helps you stay focused. She swears by it. Then Stephanie lights up a cig and they start talking. Sarah bares her soul to this stranger, who seems genuinely interested. Tells her how she’s a model, but that’s a means to an end. She dreams of working as an ad exec in a big company. She’s finished her BA and is continuing her education online. But it’s a tough road. You know, with bills and shit. Sarah says to email her a resume and she’ll check it out, help her with the process. Sarah offers her business cared and Stephanie’s like, for real? She’s totally stoked. Steph ashes her cig and takes another pull just as her phone vibrates. She’s up. She crushes out the cigarette, drops it in a butt container in her purse, then heads downstairs. Sarah says good luck as she leaves.
Stephanie watches as the girl in front of her, who’s standing next to a sexy man, completes her audition. Her turn. She walks up to the mark and notices the man’s lips curl up on one side. He introduces himself. His name is MJ. He’ll be feeding her lines. Stephanie can’t help but smile back. Their eyes lock and she can’t seem to look away. She’s totally wet. She blushes. She hasn’t reacted like this since high school. The audition goes extremely well. There’s so much chemistry between them the electricity in the air is palpable. They end up talking afterwards, then going out for a drink. It’s a great time and they end up at his place where they have the hottest sex she’s had in her entire life. She wakes up late for work, panicking. Dressing while she’s walking to the door, she says goodbye and is gone. Putting her shoes on in the elevator. Mason Klum, co-founder and CEO of Lyle & Klum Media, is in a meeting with his marketing team. They’ve just gone through several days of auditions and have it narrowed down to one lady. Stephanie Stevens. Everyone LOVES Stephanie and believes she is the right choice. But Mason isn’t convinced. He says he wants to have the agency send over another round of actresses and go at it for a couple more days. The team is like, What? Why? He says that’s final and they don’t question him — he has a nose for this sort of thing. Plus, he owns half the company. After getting chewed out at work Stephanie powers through her workday glowing from the night before. She can’t wait to see MJ again and gets goosebumps just thinking about him. After work she checks her messages and there’s a call from her agent, Dan Dannie. She’s psyched. He’d received a call from the producer who said they all LOVED Stephanie and want her for the part. They still need to confirm with Mason Klum, but he’s 99% sure she’s their girl. But her heart sinks after listening to the message. She calls her agent who’s a little quirky, “Double Dan here, go!” Stephanie lays into him, wanting to know what happened to the deal. Apparently the big boss, the almighty Klum himself, wants to pull in another batch of broads. Dan gets serious and says he’s sorry, he really thought she had it. Stephanie is nothing if not resourceful and has an idea. She tells Dan what to do and ends the call.
Later that night Stephanie meets MJ at a fancy restaurant across town, she feels bad for the guy. She tries to tell him they don’t have to go to a place like this. It’s too fucking expensive, but he insists, saying he already made the reservations. They have a great time. She’s clearly distracted, but doesn’t want to deal with her problems right now. Better to enjoy the moment, and this extremely hot and sexy man. Plus he makes her laugh, and that’s the best medicine in the world. During dinner Stephanie gets another call. It’s Dan. “Yo, Steph, who’s your Dannie? Me, that’s who!” He tells her he got her the appointment she wanted. Dan just talked to his pal at Lyle & Klum and got her five minutes with the man. It’s a literal elevator pitch as they’ll be ambushing the fucker in an elevator. The next day she meets Dan near the lobby of the Lyle & Klum building. He’s wearing a ridiculous orange suit and hat. Straight out of Dumb and Dumber. They small talk for several minutes until Dan’s friend on the inside gives him okay. Mason Klum is in the #3 elevator heading up to his office. Dan walks over and hits the button and tells Stephanie, “You got this, kid.” She says she’s ready. Nervous, but ready. She’s going to find out why he didn’t want her when everyone on his staff said she was perfect. If nothing else she’ll learn something so she can improve. Then kill it the next time.
The elevator opens and Stephanie can’t believe her eyes. The man in the elevator is MJ. She hesitates, not sure what to think. then notices his suit, his briefcase, then it hits her like a ton of bricks. She marches into the elevator and shoves him backwards into the wall. She’s fucking pissed! The doors close as Double Dan Dannie, for the first time in his career, is speechless. Turns out that MJ and his partner both signed an agreement after Lyle’s “relationships” with the models got out of hand. It caused a lot of internal problems and a costly lawsuit. In order to move forward they both signed an agreement not to date, or have relations with, any of the models. After the first night with Stephanie he knew he couldn’t hire her and date her at the same time. Then his personal secretary, Sarah, forwarded him Stephanie’s resume. He was blown away with her ideas and thoughts and willingness to learn. So they’d already emailed her an offer for an entry level executive position. He was going to tell her later that day, but wanted her to get the offer first. By the time they reach MJ’s office their clothes are halfway off. He leans her back, then gently lays her on the floor and takes her right there.
