After spending the last three years trying to forget the war, Jake and his bomb dog, Bear, are invited to visit the scientist whose life they saved, thrusting them into a whole new world when they become the catalyst for a dangerous experiment.
Three years after an explosion nearly kills them, Jake, a retired war vet, and Bear, his bomb dog, want nothing more than to put the war behind them. But a scientist whose life Jake saved, tracks him down then invites him and Bear to visit his home in Switzerland. But Dr. Hobbs isn’t just looking for closure. Jake and Bear were exposed to a dangerous microbe that is the key to his team making a major discovery. Others will be looking for him. To protect them, Bastien must get them to his lab, but on the night before man and dog are to leave, the scientist’s home is attacked. It looks like this could be the end as all the guards are killed. Bastien apologizes as he stabs a syringe into Jake and then another into Bear. This, he tells them, is the only way. Jake wakes to find himself naked with a bloody body, and Bear unconscious. Corpses litter the house. A dying Bastien says, “It works,” then hands Jake a case with vials of clear liquid, some files, and a few drives. He must get them to commander Caspari at the army medical school. He is their only hope.
