Rosario was the world’s best programmer. Until she coded its end.
Rosario used to be a black hat hacker who used her vast skills to ensure that the powers that be don’t get too powerful or forget what’s best for the people. But she got caught and took the fall for her friends. To pay back her debt to society, Rosario now works — with the government’s blessing — as a white hat for Granger Innovations, leaders in AI and cybersecurity and run by a charming, charismatic guy who everyone but Rosario loves. In secret, she works with fellow hacker Lars toward a loftier goal: to take down Granger and especially Harriet, Granger’s brainchild AI that’s now partly embedded in the federal government and military information systems. Their plan works and they manage to take out Harriet, but then Harriet rebounds and threatens to dispense an experimental bioweapon that could decimate the human population. As the world freaks out and Granger’s people work to defuse this ticking bomb, Rosario scrambles to figure out what she did wrong. As a desperate measure, the government allows Granger to fully implement Harriet into their systems, and the threat of bioterror ceases. Then, Rosario discovers that Granger orchestrated the everything to get what he wants most: for Harriet to take over the government’s systems and put him full control.
